Try getting more perfect combo to get a rating of A or above and you will be given an option to unlock items.

Its not really about ratings though it does help. Its more of points earn. Its like every certain amount of points earned will allow you to unlock an item. Hope this help.” Hope it helps. But I personally prefer to use the Standard Mode to unlock items, easier! =)
