Universal Studios Frenzy (part I)

Universal Studios used to be a tourists’ themepark for us Malaysians/Singaporeans, and can only visit it if we go overseas like to the States; probably a dream to many. Like a wish come true, Universal Studios set its foot in Singapore and TA-DAHHHHHH we now have the Universal Studios Singapore!

I was as excited as the many other locals or even foreigners who visited the USS this Monday. Like the description i used on my fb albums “It was Monday but it felt like Saturday, and the Sun was out to play”

I love Universal Studios. I like the way they build up and decorate their interiors and exteriors. Extremely fairytale-ish and gives that happily ever after feeling which girls like me suppaaaa lurveeee! Thumbs up for USS!!! On the other side, they also have very vintagy buildings and decos. Mad love for such buildings too, suppaa classic feel! Aiyaaa, on the overall, USS is worth going a trip, at least, in your lifetime. I can’t deny if you go aplenty of times at one go, I bet you wouldn’t set your foot into them for at least quite some time. You’ll be extremely bored of the games inside because they don’t change within weeks or even months.

I think USS would be purrrrfect if we are not facing global warming – lower temperature and thus better weather. Seriously, the weather was one killer that day. The sun was blazing like a torch from the skies, I think I turned a shade darker after the whole day there. How I wish we had winter or even just spring ( don’t request too much la huh.), and USS would be x39401239123 times MORE ENJOYABLE. I was practically sweating from HEAD to TOE, and my skins felt like super glue/elephant glue, whichever is stickier. lol. So I’d definitely prefer Universal Studios abroad, which are not temperate countries like us.

But..it was nevertheless fun! We can never change the weather here anyway, right? So just make do with it and have the best day of your life @ USS :D

Oh and if you’re thinking S$66/72 (weekdays/weekends) is a little too steep, I’m going to tell you what you get what your purchase your entry tix! After you purchase your tix, they will give each person 3 different tixs, one of it is ur entrance tix, 2nd- a $10 meal voucher, 3rd- a $5 retail voucher. So your S$66 actually includes your meal and a little souvenir, if you don’t wanna spend anymore $ inside! To me, its not bad a deal, eh? I thought I’d totally get nuttin’! hehehe. SMART USS.

Alright, shall not crap anymore. I shall entertain you with piccas from USS.. Guess I’ll be separating them into two entries, maybe a general entry now,and a camwhore entry later! :D

this is the area immediately after the entrance. HOLLYWOOD.

We should have taken this once we stepped into USS. but our adventurous hearts brought us around the place first! So we ended up taking a shot only when we were leaving; which explains the dark background!

the roller coaster that's under maintainance.

really hope if i ever visit USS again (which i think i will), it will be up already. but, i wonder if i got the guts to play it. its the scariest ride amongst all the games. gotta risk my lousy eyes too, haah. am sure its gonna be an awesome thrill if i play!!

Shrek Forever After: A movie Review

Movie reviews!!

Caught Shrek Forever After: The Last Chapter in the theatres on Tuesday after an impromptu decision when we were in Universal Studios (USS) on Monday. The super-steady-4-of-us who went to USS together, decided that we’ll catch Shrek the day after! :D

Ahhhh. I have to admit, I slept through almost half the movie, and woke up occasionally and fall back asleep again. Its really not that the movie was that bad. I was just too tired. My friends really enjoyed the movie. (Imagine I didn’t have enough rest since last Wednesday when I started work, and immediately after work on Sunday, I went to explore the USS on Monday. Yes. I’m that tired.) And yes, I recalled..some parts of the movie were funny, and it was quite a touching movie. I’d give a 3/5 ratings!

Right, back to the point. What I really loved about the movie was the ‘moral of the story’ which they were trying to bring across, which is to TREASURE AND CHERISH WHATEVER YOU HAVE BEFORE YOU LOSE THEM, AND END UP REGRETTING.

I’m going to be a spoiler. Shrek in this final chapter, was not satisfied about what he had and he wanted more. In the end, he lost all he had and wanted so much to be back to the past, to embrace what he used to have.

I think thats a pretty important lesson. Many of us are already very much better off than many many people living on this Earth and yet we are never satisfied. Human beings are never satisfied, true, but more importantly, know how to cherish.

Start with your own family members; cherish each other, tell your parents you love them, tell your siblings you care. :) Continue to show and spread your love to your friends.

“Do not take each day for granted, tomorrow is never guaranteed”

:) it doesn’t take much to show your appreciation, yeah? make people smile, i promise their smile will make your day.

that was what i learnt during work. i really appreciate customers who bother to say a thank you and also smile at me, it made my day a little more bearable.

thats us and the poster! :)

another one!

hehe, and us in our 3D glasses!

hehe, paiseh i look so chui max! ;(

anyway! next entry would be on our UNIVERSAL STUDIOS SINGAPORE day! :D! stay tuned!

Feel my disappointment.

The day I felt I was ‘imprisoned’ and the sentence was to wear spectacles for life.

I don’t think any words could even describe how I feel at that instance. Even ‘utterly disappointed’ would be an understatement towards how I felt.

I had been pinning high hopes of performing a vision correction surgery– LASIK for years, since I was in polytechnic. I thought my wait was finally over. Because the transition period between university and after I graduate was a good time, to allow me to go for the surgery, as well as to have a good rest after that.

Been busy for the past two months since examinations ended and finally finally, dearest mommy brought me to the clinic for a check up.

My optician starting with a general eye check using a machine, the one where we could see a parachute (I have no idea if it’s the same anywhere else for instance in Singapore, because that’s what I’ve been seeing for the past years).  He commented that my astigmatism increased again. My heart skipped a beat.

Previous attempts when I consulted him for ordinary eye checks, he was also pretty concerned about my astigmatism as they had been increasing almost every time I check my eyes. He told me about a condition – keratoconus, where the cornea is cone-shaped and causes extreme visual distortion. And because of that, patients with this condition can never perform a LASIK operation.

Just FYI, Keratoconus is a progressive eye disease in which the normally round cornea thins and begins to bulge into a cone-like shape. This cone shape deflects light as it enters the eye on its way to the light-sensitive retina, causing distorted vision.

Fine, after which, it was a manual eye check where he tests my eye sight with lenses of different degrees and we try to read some alphabets/numbers across the wall on the opposite side. I believe those who’ve been through eye checks know what I’m talking about. He concluded that I had a whooping leap of +75 degrees of astigmatism on my left eye. (75degrees is a lot, this is scary)

Next up, he brought me to another room, and I was told to rest my chin on this very sophisticated and pretty looking machine, where it had black/white strips on it. He typed in all my information, and subjected me to the test. It was the machine that determined my sentence. It measured the thickness of my cornea.

According to my optician, during LASIK operation, they have to scrape off some tissues on our cornea and if it doesn’t hit the minimum thickness (which is different for different degrees), LASIK operations are really really not advisable because they can never guarantee the success rate and complications after such risky cases.

And to my horror, my corneas were revealed to be really thin. A very lenient minimum requirement of ~0.48um and I only had ~4.77um.  my.heart.dropped.

I showed a strong front and smiled to him while he explained why I am not the best candidate for a LASIK operation. After which, he walked out of the room and explain everything to mommy again, for a second time. I was holding my tears.

He didn’t charge me for the check up as ‘I was already very disappointed’. Immediately outside the clinic while waiting for the lift, I broke into tears. WHY? Why me? WHY do I have to have such a thin cornea?

I think no one can understand how dejected, depressed, devastated and disappointed I was. (I felt that it was worst than a breakup, shit, do I sound too heartless?)

I went to the mall to choose a new pair of spectacles immediately. (How embarrassing, we had to meet a friend’s mom at the mall, when I had red and swollen eyes.) I think I made mommy a tad worried.

Talked to brother for a bit that night. He said I wouldn’t understand and I said the same, he wouldn’t understand why I am this upset. And told me its fine to wear spectacles. Thank you kor, I felt a little better.

Thank you friends, who commented after I penned down those depressing update of status on facebook/twitter. Thanks for the consoling me.

Think I need just a little time to get over the sadness. I might rant about this issue for awhile more, but I’m sure I’ll get over it.

You guys are sure wondering what a vain pot I am. Not to deny, everyone wants to look at their best, right? And like what the Chinese proverb says , there’s no ugly women in the world, there are only lazy women.

Oh, and if you’re going to suggest contact lenses to me, I have eye allergies caused by don’t-know-what. But definitely not contact lenses. So, long term on contact lenses is not a solution for me. (Yes, how pathetic I am right.) And I thought LASIK would solve my problem… now, my bubble of hope is burst, the fact that I have to be in spectacles for life. So currently I’m on dailies toric lenses which costs me a BOMB, and yeah, even if they cost a bomb, I can’t wear them everyday.

The thing about spectacles are that, they keep ‘dropping’ and sometimes half the eye’s out of the frame of the specs, especially when we sweat, and when we engage in sports. Then, comes the problem of an ugly reflection when taking photos. I LOVE TAKING PHOTOS, so ANYTHING THAT MAKES ME UGLY, I HATE. (I know they have what they call multi-coating lenses that do not reflect light but they don’t seem to work on me at all. Every single spectacles I have give me this problem.) Next, issues with make up, after dolling myself up with even very basic eyeliner and mascara, the mascara will taint my spectacles and blur my vision. More importantly I feel that all my make up goes to waste because they are covered up by spectacles, so whats the point of dolling myself up? I’ll never end all the woes about wearing spectacles lah..

an example of reflection on my spectacles.

this is already a very mild reflection. I wouldn’t bear to show you a bad one, and spoil my image. hehehe. :)

Also, the popularity of contact lenses have risen so much over the years that most of the people I know who used to wear spectacles are on contact lenses. If people don’t look better on contact lenses, who would pay for the hassle?

Sorry if you’re tired of my rantings.

I’m tired of the problems I have too. :(

Besides my eyes, my face are giving me problems also! WHY?? I tend to get red little spots like rashes on my face around my cheek bone area towards the end of the day, when the weather gets really hot. Why am I suffering from so many allergy reactions? And what on earth am I allergic to?

How depressed I am. Can you feel me?

i never wanted to be in spectacles.

My graduation @ SP!

Graduation.

Indeed a very and currently most significant milestone in my 20 years of life. I don’t remember feeling like this when I graduated from Primary and Secondary school. It was an awesomey feeling to graduate from SP with a Diploma in Biomedical Science. Thank you lecturers and friends, once again. I’m grateful to have met each and everyone of you.

It was a day to remember. Cameras were flashing, the sun was burning and we were all perspiring (like mad). I was wet with perspiration from head to toe and I had many ugly and unglam moments when my fringe was stuck to my forehead. Really gross photos of me and my fringe man!

I’ll continue with photos! :D

disclaimer: guys please be nice to my photos okay. do not blow them up and print them and poke thumbnails or whatever on the faces. :) i do not want to cause any trouble. photos are for your viewing pleasure. i’m exceptionally concerned because there are photos of my lecturers.

Thoughts for work

Wow, the days felt like they were yesterday. Work ended on Sunday, 10pm. Thanks for sending us to Kranji, :D. Somehow I really couldn’t contain my excitement. Afterall its just a roadshow job, a temporary 5-day job. But I was filled with thoughts. Very random ones in fact. Let me list them down.. (of which some I’d randomly wrote on twitter.)

  1. ~80% of the people strolling around Takashimaya, Ngee Ann City had either a Louis Vuitton (LV), Longchamp, Gucci, and even Chanel. Are these branded goods really that affordable nowadays? Not to me though. Which makes me wonder why are so so so many people willing to spend big bucks on these designer goods. Durability? Design? or Glory?
  2. ~70% of them are either using an iPhone or a Blackberry. (More than half of my colleagues are using iPhone too.)
  3. Heartwarming scenes when I see many daddy(s) and mummy(s) who dote their kids very very much. They’d accompany their kiddos to try-on the 3D TV using the 3D glasses and occasionally had stares into their eyes to ask if they liked/enjoyed it. Its a very simple gesture but I could feel the love of a parent.
  4. Different people from all walks of life. Very mannered ones to very ill-mannered ones. The need to emphasize, its really not that hard to say a ‘Thank you’ right?
  5. Some people really can’t appreciate the 3D TV technology. Yes I agree wearing the 3D glasses are a hassle especially to people who are already using spectacles. But don’t you wow in awe when you see those amazingly impressive 3D graphics? I mean, just admit its good, but its troublesome.
  6. which brings me to the point that I really like customers who appreciate technology, who tell me that the 3D tv is AMAZING and IMPRESSIVE. I meant, even though I wasn’t the creator, I feel proud of what I’m promoting, it makes me feel good. These kind of people are never stingy with their praises, and I realised a handful of them came from the caucasians.
  7. Do not straightaway bombard the staffs and stereotype the products, no matter what you’re seeing. Remember they are JUST doing their job, doing what they are supposed/asked to.

I would continue till tomorrow if I don’t stop now.

Lesson to be learnt..

  • Always remember your ‘P’s and ‘T’s – Please and Thank you! :)) It’d make people’s day. A smile to go with it would be x10294132 times better.
  • Don’t scrutinise a product infront of the staff promoting/selling it – I myself am guilty of this sin, now that I know how it feels, I’ll try to control myself. (‘cuz I’m a very straightforward person as well.)
  • Don’t blame the staffs for the products which you’re unsatisfactory about. Afterall, it was just their job to deliver whatever information you needed to know.

I had some experiences which I didn’t liked and remembered!

#1 When one old uncle with tattoos(!) talk to me alot and ended up giving me his name card, asking me to contact him when I go clubbing/ need someone for dinner. (wtf?!)

#2 Another supposingly a pilot who told me alot of interesting stuffs which can be seen while he’s in the cockpit, and ended up asking me what do I do on Friday nights?!!!!

#3 A last epic failure uncle who pretended (I guess he was pretending) to be all interested about the 3D TV and wanted to buy except that he wanted to get his family member with a certain bank’s credit card to get further rebates. He told me he’ll ask his family member to look for me, and asked me ‘how to contact you?’. (Obviously I didn’t give him my number) And I think it was all a scam because no one looked for me to buy a 3D TV lah! :S

Anyhows. I’ll update again!!! :D

Graduation post next ! ^^ I had a hard time editting every single pic. HAHA.

Camwhore before work :p

taken on the last day of work :P
