Buying/Selling Textbooks?

[Sponsored post]

Hello people!

Are you ready for school? Especially my fellow NUS friends who’d started our semester coming Monday! I hope you’ve all bidded and gotten your modules successfully!

Anyway, with the start of the new semester, I’m sure many of you would be worrying about getting your textbooks! We all know new textbooks are expensive; so 2nd hand books are actually the best way out for students like us!

Last semester, I had a terrible experience of trying to get a 2nd hand book via the IVLE portal. (NUS’s system!) Firstly, in order to find the textbooks I’m interested in, I had to go through a long list of postings like this.

clip_image002

That’s not all. After I find the book that I want, I have to either email/sms/call the seller (if hp no. is provided).

Here comes the problem. First and foremost, most of the sellers DO NOT update the status of the availability of their books i.e. after they sell their books away, they don’t update the postings.

I scrolled through many many of those pages above, to find 6-7 sellers, and texted them ONE-by-ONE. Urghhhhh.

& Being a super last minute person, I only started looking for books on the 2nd and 3rd week of school, and by that time, the best deals are already gone. Urghhh x2. Not only that, some kind sellers reply to say it’s sold, others didn’t even bother replying.

Guess what, I end up not getting the book for that particular module. (I’m serious! I just gave up.)

BUT NOWWW. I’ve been introduced to this super awesome site to buy/sell 2nd hand textbooks! :D

& Oh, its not only for NUS students, actually anyone who need textbooks (be it poly/uni) can try finding the textbooks you need via that portal! So buyers/sellers, you can actually reach out to anyone who wants/has the book, not just students from NUS in particular!

Let me tell you how it works!

To buy a book, its as easy as 1-2-3!

(Because I’m a Science student, the example I’m using is of cause related to science!)

clip_image004

There you go!! Just type the book you want, it can be very general. Eg, economics/ accounting. All the books available will be shown! :) Easy yeah? They also tell you the lowest selling price, and condition of the books! So you can decide yourself and choose which seller to buy it from.

After many years of school and taking different modules, I’m sure your books are piling up! It’s time to sell those that you know you wouldn’t need any more before they get all yellow-ish! & Get back some $$ to buy other books for your coming semester!!!

clip_image006

Hehe. In order to sell your book, all you have to do, is to type in the ISBN code of the books!

They can be usually found in the first few page of the book, and/or, the back cover of the book! More info can be found here: http://bookinbookout.com/qna.html#isbn

clip_image008

Just type it in, and the book you’re intending to sell will appear! SUPER SPECIFIC and easy, so you don’t need to type out the author, edition, blah blah blahhh. Save us all the trouble!

clip_image010

See, the book I want is out. With the author and all the details! :D

clip_image012

LOL, they even tell you how much other people are selling at! So if you want your book to be sold fast, you can make your price like $0.50 or $1.00 cheaper if you’re willing to let it go at a little cheaper! HAHAHAHA. CHEAPO ppl like me will sure choose the cheaper one, provided the condition is the same lah! :P Else I’d think twice.

Isn’t it extremely convenient to buy/sell your books?! This semester onwards I’ma quit scouting my book through IVLE man!!! So troublesome!

So people, start going to this platform!

I assure you the experience is much better than through IVLE or any other forums you go to. Super easy to use, like I’ve explained above. & just FYI, it is used by over 60% students from NUS, NTU and SMU. (people like me are slow, I only got to know this site while doing this ad) So it’s highly likely that the book you’re looking for will be available there!

Another plus (+++) point is, your privacy is protected! The platform does not have to display your name, handphone no, email publicy for everyone to see. (Remember I sms-ed all the sellers to try to get my book? Imagine the SMS spam especially after your book is already sold – irritating ttm!.)

If you’re worried that no one ever checks that platform- it is now connected to Facebook as well!! You can see what your friends are selling and choose who to buy the books from! & the prices are typically 40-60% of brand new textbooks- cheapest way to start a new semester of new modules! ;)

Most importantly, BookInBookOut.com is giving away free iPad and iPod Touch to celebrate the launch of this new system! (More details here: http://bookinbookout.com/giveaway_notice.html)

HEHE! Good luck with the giveaway, and I hope all of you have a good experience buying and selling 2nd hand books now! :D I’m so gonna be hogging by this website soon once the recommended texts and all are out! ;)

Head on to http://bookinbookout.com/ now! :D

Wonders how they got to me.

I’d been receiving letters from LOCAL (Malaysia) Colleges/Universities since I was nearing graduation, and still receiving them now and then.

I just received another letter from the SEGi University College and this really heightened my curiosity level.

THERE YOU GO.

The question is HOW DO THEY GET MY NAME, and ADDRESS, and know that I’ve just graduated? — My biggest question mark (?).

Thing is, I’ve been schooling in Singapore since young. To be exact, since Primary one. I’ve been educated in Singapore all along and I really wonder how they found out I just graduated from Singapore Poly. I’ve NEVER applied for local universities in Malaysia before too.

After discussing the issue with my brother, we came up with a conclusion – someone somewhere must have sold our particulars to these local universities. Brother mentioned that he had letters years back too.

Without much thoughts, in our opinions, we could only boil down the culprit to IDP Education Pty Ltd (JB, Malaysia). (I’m just saying, you don’t have to agree, or you might wanna update me about how it works in Malaysia.) It is a nation wide association that helps international students apply for Australia universities.

IDP is the number one choice for international students who study in Australia. We offer a free service all the way through the process from deciding on a course to applying for a visa to pre-departure seminars.

as quoted from their website.

IDP is the ONLY “company” that should know we graduated because both of us applied to Australia universities and they are the ones who have all our particulars, results, etc.

Do you fellow Malaysians studying in Singapore applied for Australia Universities via IDP receive letters too? Let me know!

Disclaimer:: We have no proof that IDP is definitely the culprit but like what I’ve mentioned, its highly possible, in our opinions. :)

My graduation @ SP!

Graduation.

Indeed a very and currently most significant milestone in my 20 years of life. I don’t remember feeling like this when I graduated from Primary and Secondary school. It was an awesomey feeling to graduate from SP with a Diploma in Biomedical Science. Thank you lecturers and friends, once again. I’m grateful to have met each and everyone of you.

It was a day to remember. Cameras were flashing, the sun was burning and we were all perspiring (like mad). I was wet with perspiration from head to toe and I had many ugly and unglam moments when my fringe was stuck to my forehead. Really gross photos of me and my fringe man!

I’ll continue with photos! :D

disclaimer: guys please be nice to my photos okay. do not blow them up and print them and poke thumbnails or whatever on the faces. :) i do not want to cause any trouble. photos are for your viewing pleasure. i’m exceptionally concerned because there are photos of my lecturers.

still as busy..but busy playing hard!

I was as busy as a bumble bee since my last paper (of my poly education!) ended on the 3rd of March, 2.40pm.

Almost couldn’t contain my excitement about girlies coming over to JB, at the same time, I was so worried there was nothing to entertain them at night! Thank goodness it all went well, and I hope you girls enjoyed it as much as I did. Even though it was reallllll tiring. Enjoyed bringing you girls around, lovin’ the lil’ sweet treats ( Snow Ice & Uncle Bob!!) that I recommended, BRIDGEEE! that made us reaaaaaally high, all the chats and catching up (because we were really busy with school we didn’t really hung out)! ((:

Up next was the annual dinner and dance organised by our chemical and life sceinces school. It was an awesomeee night. Girlies headed to Rebel after that! Superrrr shiok! ;) We also booked a hotel room @ Pan Pacific hotel so we headed back after which!! What an experience! :D Photos shall be up soon after I manage to resize them..

Will be heading to Germany/Austria for holidays tomorrow for the next 9 days or so! Seriously can’t wait!! And after I’m back it’ll be the Girlies graduation trip to Bangkok! Arghhh, hope all the demonstrations will be over by then. *keeps fingers crossed* Else..

Its a fantabulous March for me! :) I hope it is for all my friends too!! We’ve worked hard for 3 years! Its time to reallly let down our hair for once to enjoy before work/ university starts.

Back to university.. I’m still thinking. NUS? NTU? Or overseas. NUS seems a tad too overwhelming for me, as in the stress level. Seniors who are the cream of the crop already are whining about the work load. I don’t think I can take it, 3 years of poly was already very stressful! How to take 3 more years of such stress! No exemptions as well boooo. Haven’t heard much about NTU but everyone says NUS is better in this field (this is only my opinion.). But NTU allows direct 2nd honours, I think! Having said all this, I feel that I’ve already made up my mind. Shall wait for all the offers from the university! Hope they’ll accept me, before I consider!

Shall continue another day after my Germany trip perhaps! Meanwhile have fun! I understand its the March holidays! Xoxoxo.

Happy Chinese New Year!!

Helloooooo world!!!!! :)

I can finally spend a lil time penning down my thoughts now! The previous two weeks can only be described by nothing less than hectic. Two tests on each week and our FYP presentation was earlier this week. More than glad its over!! I mean everything, tests and what nots!! Finally time for me to take a breather, during the festive season! My favourite occasion every year – Chinese New Year!!!

The reason why I love CNY is not because of the food and delicacies, its because of all the new clothes and stuffs. Everything is gonna be new!! Woooohooo! :) Although I still buy new clothes here and there along the year, CNY is like the only occasion you can wear new clothes every single day without giving any excuses to wear them! :D:D:D

Had been sleeping at some exotic early hours in the days consecutively for almost two weeks! My eye bags are as dark as you can imagine, and it requires double layer of foundation to conceal the darkness! Goshnesss! hehehe. Think SP wants to kill all the graduating students before they finally graduate! :)))

Anywayyy. Wanna thank my girls, especially my dearest FYPgirls, Weixue’love and Angela! :)))  Thankyou for all the times spent together, be it doing FYP experimental bench work, doing our FYP report and powerpoint, and assignments!!! We’re finally done with ALL of them! :D Loveee you two! And the other 3 significant girls, my B, my D, my mui, thanks for making the past 3 years so bearable. School days wouldn’t be as fun without you girls! Can’t wait to hang outzz after the exams, stayover at my crib, annual dinner and dance, and finally our Bangkok trip!!!! :D Ohhh, not forgetting Ang Suet Yin!! You knowwww laa, hehehe. Love all these girls! :D They make up the colours of the boring school days… 3 years passed just like that! :)))

So emotional..

Don’t think I’ll be going out to Singapore very often since there are no more lessons, only left with the exams and I’ll be officially be done with my final semester of poly education! :D Brought back prolly 2/3 of my stuffs from the Clementi place! Need the last trip out to get EVERYTHING back! :) Woah seriously, I think if I were to go Aussie for further studies, I’d need to send everything back by sea courier! HAHAHAHA. The accumulation of all the stuffs that I’ve used for the past two years, is really A LOT. Counted the number of pairs of shoes I had in Clementi – 18pairs. -____-! If my parents get to know one-eight, I’ll never get to buy anymore shoes la! The packing was awful too, despite having to juggle with all the tests coming up, I still had to pack my stuffs so that they could be sent back to JB by my parents! So disturbed by it, ended up packing some stuffs I required home, and left A LOT of stuffs I could have brought home, there. ’nuffffffffffff.

Still super happy over the fact that its the eve of CNY tomorrow!! :D So Happy Chinese New Year to ALL! :))
