I’m pretty sure its the very stressful period for most university *including myself!!!*, A’s and O’s students! But guys, brace on! It’ll be over soon! :)

I decided to blog about some destressing tips to help unwind ourselves a little during this extremely tensed episode of our schooling life!

I got these ‘cards’ like thingy created by some Stress Management Unit, supported by Youth Advolution for Health.. and they asked us to "pass this on…" Thus I hope to be able to reach out to a large group of you, rather than passing them physically. :))

#1 Breathe in, Breathe out!

When faced with stress, TRY THIS!  – Breath in through your nose. Hold your breadth for awhile. Breath out slowly. & Repeat this a couple of times.

#2: Talk to someone!

IMG_0412

Yak with a friend, vent your frustrations, tell them about your day. A simple conversation can go a long way to reduce stress. :D

#3: Laugh out Loud!!

IMG_0411

Laughter is not only good medicine, it is also contagious! Watching someone else have a good laugh can get you laughing and joining in the fun too!

A good laugh can help relieve tension. So laugh the stress away right away! :))

#4: Have a good night’s sleep!

IMG_0407

Your mind and body deserve a good sleep everyday. So, give yourself at least 6-8 hours of sleep each day! Especially the day before your exams!!! Remember a tired body = a tired mind!

#5: Exercise & be HAPPY

IMG_0408

Exercise keeps your healthy and fit. It also releases endorphins which makes you feel good. So, exercise and lift your spirits! Gather a group of friends and start on a regular exercise routine. Its never too late to start, today! :)

#6: Eat balanced meals everyday!

IMG_0409

When faced with stressful situations, don’t over indulge in caffeinated drinks and unhealthy snacks. Choose healthier options like fruits and vegetables.

Remember 2 servings of fruits and vegetables everyday keeps you healthy! :D

#7: Think Positive!

IMG_0410

Say to yourself every morning:

-Today is going to be a great day (It most probably will end up a great one)!

-Things don’t get better by worrying about them

-I can do it!

-There is always something to be happy about.

-Life is great, and life is short. Make the best of it!

(I love all these they make superb sense!!)

& Lastly, #8: Find your own space.

 IMG_0406

What do I mean by finding own space?

Set aside at least 10 minutes for yourself everyday. During this “me time”, put your work away and do something you really enjoy. Be it listening to your favourite music.. or watching your favourite shows. AND JUST RELAXXXXXX.

Weeeee. I hope you guys benefit from these, though they are very common sense things, but we often forget about them. :) ALL THE BESTTTTT!!!

Facing changes – tips for confidence!

Facing changes.

I’m sure everyone heard of the phrase, “change is the only constant”.

And most of the times changes results in us becoming less confident and competent than our usual self. Escaping or ‘hiding’ from the change doesn’t help, perhaps if it does, its only in the initial state.

Nevertheless, one way of understanding your anxieties (due to the changes) is to realise that its your way of reacting when you can’t predict what’s going to happen. This reaction is like a ‘core’ and its all in-built in everyone of us.

Every human being will experience this fear, and its about how you manage it. Some manage it fine and manage to overcome and adapt to changes, while others stumble a little..

The same logic: if you think you’ll handle the change well, you will. (:

Basically, all it takes is to try to get rid of the self-doubt feeling, by being more confident of yourself!!

  1. Focus only on things that you do well.
-do so by being very positive-minded, squeeze out all the negative thoughts. spend more time doing something you’re good at/ or at least enjoy doing, and that’ll give you something like a confidence-boost! :D
  2. Power of speech.
    -
the way we all converse makes a huge difference as its able to portray our enthusiasm and excitement towards a matter; and that indirectly causes others to respond to you more positively. smile; even if you’re talking on the phone, as it results in better enunciation!
  3. Negotiate more ‘me time’.
    -
spend more time doing things you like rather than things you’re doing out of obligations. no doubts we all have obligations in life, but things are always negotiable. it is always good to do things willingly instead of being ‘forced’ to.
  4. Be assertive.
-assert yourself, be sure about your own feelings and emotions without alienating others. be firm, but pleasant. sometimes put yourself in other’s shoes, if required.
  5. Visualise success
    -
i’m sure everyone know how sweet success feels, so just visualise it and start living positively, from day to day for a couple of months. eventually, you’ll not only feel, but taste the fruits of success.
  6. Just relax.
-relaxation is vital for creative thinking, and you need your creative juices to flow to solve problems!! breathing more than 12 times a minute shows that you’re breathing too shallowly and too fast! :)
  7. Become a winner.
-understand that winning comes in all forms and think yourself as a winner. do something you like (i.e. your hobby), you may not be the best but as long as you’re enjoying, you’re a winner too! ;)
  8. Stick with friends.
-not just any friend; but friends who are caring, who foster you. there will be bound to be those whom you will have obligations, but for everyone else, you  have a choice. make sure your friends make you feel good about yourself!!
  9. Deal with disappointments.
-i always say this: life is never smooth-sailing. there will be times when things dont go the way you want them to. nonetheless, its not the end of the world. allow yourself sometime to be upset and after which, bounce back to your usual positive self!          & finally..
  10. Turn yourself inside out!
-an outside-in person craves attention and is only self-concerned. being an inside-out person, you focus on others as well. you’ll become more confident as others start responding to your openness and interest in them.

I adapted these tips from Cleo magazine (but mostly rephrased); because I found them really useful. I, myself is one victim when facing changes. Hopefully, after reading, you get some insights on how to have a little more confidence in yourself!

ALL THE BEST :)
